Natural World Products Supports Belfast YMCA

The YMCA community garden in Stranmillis has been moving towards its launch in Spring 2024 with with the help of Natural World Products who have donated 20 tonnes of their locally produced peat free New Leaf Compost to the project. Sharon and Biruk have also offered invaluable advice and assistance in implementing a “no-dig’ strategy for weed control and optimisation of soil health, as well as offering workshops to our volunteers.

The project aims to cultivate a sustainable and biodiverse green space where community members of all cultural backgrounds, ages and abilities can come together to grow fresh produce, enjoy nature, share knowledge, develop skills and make social connections. The site will include wheelchair friendly paths and a dedicated wheelchair accessible polytunnel. Workshops and educational programs to promote sustainability will be on offer; and it is further hoped that the garden will provide a locally grown source of fresh produce, promoting healthy eating habits and reducing carbon footprint. Ultimately, the garden will be a welcoming, peaceful and therapeutic space for members of the community to unwind, connect with nature, and reduce stress through gardening.
